I saw a louse while trimming paint’s pom. I tried to pinch it out but it was too quick for me

For now I’ve taken some DE to the area, and am considering Tea Tree oil. I’m not a natural remedies fanatic or anything, I’m reluctant to use poultry dust since I have 2 cats who frequent all areas where the chickens go.

Wait. I think I remember reading that tea tree oil wasn’t good for chickens. Won’t swear but it might be worth researching.

DE won’t do anything except maybe prevent it, just so you know. (If they have bugs, then it’s best to use something else)

Ooh, good to know. I used it since it was what I had on hand, and there was a study that said poultry dusted with this showed a decrease of mites. But that was mites not lice figured it wouldn’t hurt...

I looked it up and it seems that the general consensus is that it should be fine... I read a promising article on the effects of tea tree oil on louse in humans. I just made a 2% solution and sprayed her lightly with it, it helps that she puffs up, lol. for her crest and beard I worked it in with my fingers. fingers crossed that this will work for chicken lice also!

Ooh yes, i do know it’s toxic to cats. And keep all types of essential oils away from my cats. I do use it myself occasionally, but make sure to stay away from my cats for a while after application.

I figured that unlike poultry dust it cannot fall off the chicken, and since the cats don’t have physical contact with the chickens, it should be okay....?
