Hiya I'm quite a newbie but... if you buy olive egger hatching eggs that ARE olive in colour does that mean the chicks that hatch will then lay olive eggs?
Usually, but the sires genetics affect the hen chicks eggs.
Olive egged gene hen + blue egged gene roo = green eggs
Olive egged gene hen + cream/white egg gene roo = paler eggs
Olive egg gene hen + brown egg gene roo= brown eggs.
It's always a chance they won't. Olive layers have a dark brown gene and a blue gene. Because they're heterozygous for that color, no matter what you cross them with (even another olive layer), there is a chance that the offspring will not have a dark brown gene and a blue gene
