I did poke an air hole in the one, and it's membrane has lots of blood vessels still. It was moving, but barely. I've placed a wet paper towel over the end.... It doesn't look ready to hatch to me? I don't have a powerful enough flashlight on hand, the eggs seem really thick shelled compared to chicken eggs? Water candling showed 3/4 more still wiggling..... Today is day 28, so perhaps the others need more time? These are not all from the same clutch, I purchased them (drove to get them, 2 hours) and they were collected over a period of 7 days. It's frustrating..... When is too early to step in? When is too late? The bator was holding temps well until a cold snap here in Ontario.... And has dropped temp by a couple degrees.... Perhaps that's why others are late? I can hear one scratching at inside of shell..... But unless I open bator, I can't see temp or hear peeps

Okay, it sounds like they are not quite ready. Although if you can hear scratching from one that one is probably closest to ready. It doesn't matter when the hen laid them or when they were collected, the countdown starts for all at the moment you put them in the incubator. Try to get yourself the brightest led flashlight you can, it helps a lot to see what is going on. Shells are normally much thicker than chicken eggs, at least mine are. If the temp. in your bator got a little low, that could very well have slowed them down a bit. Keep us posted.

I hope my get a better candler/flashlight didn't sound snotty, I sure didn't mean for it to. Truth be told, I'm not happy with mine and I've been meaning to go to Home Depot or Lowes to see if I can find anything brighter.

I've been having this same problem with turkey eggs. All 17 eggs were thriving until lockdown, then I had 3 chicks that hatched 5 days late & 14 fully developed dead turkeys in their shell. I'm totally confused. I have a reptipro that holds temp great at 100...so, I'm in the same boat as you. It is very frustrating.

You are far from alone. Many people are seeing a lot of live eggs going into their hatchers and not many chicks coming out. It is a common problem this year.

I hate that, I've never had this problem before this year. I don't consider myself an incubating newbie either, I've hatched everything from quail to emus successfully but this has me puzzled...

My daughter gave me a rechargeable head lamp that has led lights, it will last for hours and has 3 settings i can can attach a tube from paper towels or toilet paper on the end and it is the best candler i have ever made, i can see light threw my hand with it.

Ok, I just opened up my peachick egg on day 30 & discovered a dead chick that was malpositioned like the turkey chicks. What in the world causes this? They make it till lockdown then never get positioned right I'm guessing ... This one was completely upside down in the egg & the 3 turkey's I did hatch all hatched on the pointy end of the egg.

I wish I had an answer for you? I have seen some of these, but my main problem has been chicks that are in the correct position and make the internal pip, then do nothing else. They sit there until I put in an air hole, then sit there again until I peel them out 24 hours later. They seem to be fine and healthy, not stuck to dried out membranes or anything, just unwilling or unable to hatch themselves.
