Hatching Q on mailed eggs - Ayam Cemani

700

Just an update on my littles. Can't wait for them to grow up, my GFF roo to ship in after the cold weather & hatch some of my own eggs:D

They are beautiful!!! Stunning!

Just an update: Lost all open cases (there was a total of three orders) against seller on Ebay. No refund or replacement eggs.

Hundreds of dollars spent on those eggs. My boyfriend and I are both in our late twenties, both attending college full-time and working full-time. This is something we planned and had been looking forward to for months. He invested more money into those eggs than I did, but I am still pretty disappointed. Neither one of us needed a "perfect" bird. Honestly, I still would have been okay with some light toes, or maybe a small splash here and there... but now we pretty much have Black Copper Maran-looking chicks...just not what we were expecting. We were attracted to the breed for having the black skin, black feathers, etc. Like a Gothic chicken, I would joking say. I just thought they were cool.

Be careful who you buy eggs from. Established breeders or trusted BYC members ONLY...

A huge thank you to Maranfarmer563 for selling me the most perfect Ayam Cemani egg. All the way from PA to WA State, no detached air cells that I could see...excellent packaging. Comparing them to past pictures, the differences are obvious. I don't see how a purebred Greenfire Ayam Cemani can lay a jumo brown egg... The ones I recently received are small, uniform shape, pale ivory in color. Beautiful.

The hatch is on me, so wish me luck... hopefully I'll have at least a few Ayam Cemanis running around in three weeks. My boyfriend has NO idea what these "secret eggs" are..... ^_^ It' a surprisel

There are crooks everywhere....and where better than the ayam cemani market. Big bucks! Let us know how you make out!

I want to do some ayam cemani so bad but I kill most of my eggs. I just got my new incubator. Thought it would be about as big as an old computer tower... Nope, size of a wine fridge and 80 lbs... As soon as I figure this out ... Look out...I will get me those Ayams!!!

I think I am in the same boat. I have some eggs in the incubator that were supposed to be pure Cemani, but they are large, brown eggs. Since I just want a black chicken, and don't care what the breed is, I think next time, when I have saved some extra spending money again, I'm going to get Swedish Black Hens (Svart Hona?) There is someone selling them on BYC for 25$ an egg, which is much cheaper than I've (normally) seen Cemani eggs. I got too excited by what I thought was a deal, and I think I should have been more patient, and saved for a bit longer, for the cost of my four "fake" Cemanis, I could have gotten 2 real, actual Black Hens.
I also call them Goth Chickens. LOL!

You'll have to keep us updated on the hatch! I've been interested in a couple Swedish Black Hens as well! I'm not sure how many more I can fit into my coop, but we'll have to see. ^_^ Did you purchase your eggs via Ebay?

I got them from a seller that was on ebay about a month or so ago, but all of their listings have since disappeared. I had won an auction of Cemani "hybrids" for like $1.25 and was insanely happy with that, but they cancelled my order, claiming they had no eggs, but I suspect it was because the low winning bid. I complained to them, they said they were sorry, and a few weeks later offered me the "pure" Cemanis for bargain. I'm such a sucker!

Edited: they are actually due to hatch today....still waiting on pips, though.

What was their Ebay seller name? And did they ask you to send the money through PayPal via "to friends or family"?

I hope your hatch goes well!

Well, I don't know if you've followed this thread the whole way through... but I had three orders from that same seller. Chicks hatched out white-breasted, with white wing tips, white feet, and pink mouths... Opened three claims unsuccessfully. I was first concerned when I received the eggs because of major inconsistencies in shape, size, and color. And was reassured that they were "purebred Greenfire Ayam Cemanis" and to let them know how the hatch went. I was told that I could get eggs at a discounted price should things not go well, which also proved to be untrue. Unfortunately, by the time my first hatch proved unsuccessful, I had already placed two more "bargain" (as you mentioned--I assume they sent you the same message they sent me) purchases through PayPal.

But I don't want to beat a dead horse with a stick. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you that you end up with some beautiful chicks. Please keep the updates coming on your hatch! We can compare pictures of our new "Greenfire Ayam Cemani" babies.

yeah, I hadn't read the whole thread, just the last few pages.

Any news on your hatch blackgoat? I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you! I hope to see some cutie babies soon!

I can't stand the wait on my new Cemani eggs. I am proud to say that I have only opened the incubator ONCE, to enable the turner! I haven't touched any eggs! I can't wait to candle in two days... The anticipation is KILLING ME!
