Hatching under a hen

My first clutch from my chickens has started hatching today. a little chilly out but they are hatching, peeping started yesterday, two are already out. to hard to get great pics right now. My question with the temperature dropping at night, they will be fine with momma right? i didnt expect her to sit on eggs her first year, shes only 5 months and a week or two. Pics will be forth coming.

I'll include this link to show you that I am not making this up. This lady let a broody hen hatch in Michigan in the middle or winter, much colder than you are now. I assume by your screen name you are in the Dakotas.

Trust your broody hen. I don't know how cold you are actually talking about, there are more risks when it is truly cold. What could be an inconvenience in warm weather could be dangerous in the cold, but your broody can provide enough heat for her chicks. Adding heat is more likely to mess up Mama than help.

Here's some pics. She's got 3 another egg breaking. I'll check again around 7 or 8.

4 out and 1 currently escaping. 3 eggs peeping no breaks yet. 3 of em might be silkies 4th one is def a cross with either the light brahma or procelain duccles. cant wait to get pics of them all tomorrow once they got time to get their legs under them.
