I have a bit of a dilemma: One of my hens "went missing" a couple of days ago. I finally found her, in my flower bed, sitting on 5 eggs. unfortunately, the timing appears to be such that if they hatch, it will happen while I am on vacation. I do not tend to allow eggs to hatch - we gather daily and consume the eggs. I will have a pet sitter while I am gone - but i hate to burden her with the possibility of new babies. Should i load up momma and eggs in a pet carrier and take her on my 12 hour car trip? I will be travelling back to my house in NC which has a coop all ready for her... any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

If the eggs are only a couple days old, there isn't any significant growth in them. I'd discard those eggs and break her broodiness- much easier on her than trying to travel anywhere. She'd probably stop being broody anyway if you stuck her in a carrier for 12 hours!

Thank you for the suggestion - that thought had actually crossed my mind!
