Hatching with 2 broodies

I checked this morning and the chick has made a bigger hole and her beak in poking out and she is cheeping! Can't wait until I get back later and see if she has hatched! Will keep you updated
whooohoooo and dang you are up EARLY!!!

Ok, another problem,
I went to go check on Penny and she had broken a couple eggs in her nest, I picked up one of the eggs to try and clean off the junk and I broke one! All of the remaining eggs are pretty dirty.
I tried to clean them off a little but the yolk and nest box material are pretty stuck to these little guys.
Anyone have any advice on what to do?
Do I need to start over with new eggs or just see what happens?
Thanks for your thoughts...
Marie
Same thing happened here

I gave my broodies their eggs on Sat then I went OOS...I live in California and am in NJ right now...anyway DH is in charge of the coops and he ended up with hens where they don't go. Someone got on top of one of Petunia to lay her egg and in doing so broke one of the eggs I had set. I don't know how much goo got all over the place..(these are bantam eggs so hopefully there wasn't much) and I won't till I get home on Sunday

I guess it is silly for me to worry about it from here but what would you do once you got home to assess the situation? At that point would you just candle more frequently?. I have no sense of smell so can't sniff test. Should I toss any eggs that were gunked? DH is saving eggs for me and not refrigerating in case I have to replace the whole hatch but it won't be with the bantam eggs b/c those didn't come from my birds.

So Marie did you scrap this go round and give her more??

The gal from whom I am getting the silkie seemed to have fallen off of the face of the Earth and i was so disappointed. But she finally contacted me yesterday. She was having trouble finding FB messages on her phone. Anyway It is still a go. Those babies should be out of the eggs but like I said, my contact is charged with finding them the homes not so much in the care of them so she hasn't seen her in over a week. I hope everything works out well.

Do any of you have silkies in with LF and if so do you have more than 1silkie? CC999 do you have big birds too? I know I am keeping at least one of her babies if she has any girls and I will probably keep 2 of Petunia's girls... but I am a little worried about transitioning her into the big coop...I know I am months away from that and I don't even have the birds yet...as usually counting my hatched chickens before the cart.

Gracie Belle will be quarantined for a month with the babies then she will move into the broody pen with either Petunia or Norma...I will probably be dividing that space for awhile between them literally, building dividers to make the pen into 2 spaces.

Anyway hope everyone is well and happy.

liz my son got up to Tahoe this weekend in time for the big storm. boarded on fresh powder on Sun.

I suppoose I should get up and see what my girls are doing up in the barn but I may read some more first...

Hey yes I have 4 bantams and 5 LF and they all get on fine the odd peck at first to establish the pecking order but they get on great

Wooooo hooooo. Pretty babies!!!!! Do I see 3??? So cute. Congratulations!!!
Hey just two at the moment she was sitting on 5 mixed colour silkie bantams I don't have much hope for the other three as two have rolling air cells and the other very porous but I am going to give them a little longer as she still wants to sit Its soo cute when she calls them to eat.:) Thanks

Help! I get home and find my 2 baby roosters bloody and fighting. Goose clearly lost to Rider Roo. I had no idea I would have to deal with this at such a young age. What should I do? I was thinking of splitting up the littles and putting half in the big coop and leaving half in the littles coop. Sigh. Roosters
