Hatching with 2 broodies

Hello team broody....

Well guess what?

We have chicks!:weee :celebrate :weee :celebrate :weee :celebrate
Can you believe it?

So wonderful to see a little face peeking out for the first time under a broody! Whoo-hooo!!!!!!

Each broody hatched 1 so far.  I had to separate them because Freckles was pecking at Taffys baby and Taffy was trying to take all the remaining eggs from Freckles. Those broody girls, you just never know what they are going to do. They may of worked it out but I dont want to take any chances. The babies are so small they could get hurt easily.
I made it so they can still see one another so maybe when they finish hatching they can be together. We shall see. I will try and get pictures later. They are so tiny. The 2 that hatched so far are bantam cochins. Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally a moment to add baby pics!!
Here is Cielo, Mable, and a random leghorn chowing on some FF. Notice the naughty boys in the background...

Cielo snuggling up. His colors are coming in… the tell-tale red is showing up on his back and shoulders along with his tail.

Anna and Callie with poor bald Elsa in the background. Hoping this FF gives her feather growth a kick in the behind… and back… she looks terrible!

Cielo showing the rowdy boys how it's done!

Awwww. I love it when they snuggle!!

I've got a little bit of everything in there. The rowdy crowd of white cockerels are white leghorns. Cielo is an EE and will be king of the roost this fall. Then I have two cuckoo marans, two welsummers, two buff orphingtons, and one splash and one blue cochin-- all pullets. I needed more brown eggs :)

Yay for all the new babies!!! I am so greatful they only take 3 weeks. I am quite sure I would lose my mind if I had to wait 9 months like we do :p

We are on Day 13 here. It is going by so fast and yet so slow if you know what I mean! I pray everyday that Banty will be a good Mom.

I got a mystery egg yesterday. It is brown and I can't figure out who laid it. Dot is molting and her eggs are very light beige. Voodoo who has laid 2 eggs now lays light beigey brown eggs which are quite a few shades lighter than the one yesterday. I clearly need a hen cam!

On the ridiculous side...My frizzles are booked in with the vet for Monday for a pedicure :p I noticed when I got them that their toenails looked long but I thought maybe it was just the breed. (clearly a newbie here) It made sense since they don't really scratch at all....just wander and peck. So this morning I decided to google and yes they need to be trimmed. I know I could do it myself but I want someone to actually show me on my own chickens so I can see first hand how it is done and how they will react.

Also still trying to figure out the ramp thing. Does anyone else here have a coop that is "up in the air" Mine is about 3 feet off the ground with a ramp. Will baby silkies be able to get down that ok since they don't fly??

Hello halfbakedtulip,

I think they will be fine. Is it a ramp with rungs for them to keep from sliding? If there are no stops I would take a 1x1 and cut stops or rungs if you will and go ahead and glue them on. They manage pretty well with that.

I didnt know that Frizzles needed their nails trimmed, I will have to check on Taffy's
Thanks for the info.
