Great pics and so glad to hear Britney's hanging in there!!

Congrats, Carrie!! Heartbreaking to hear bout the one who didn't make it out, though.
Mom is pretty! What breed is she? EE? Did she make the blue egg? I'm still sad none of my blue eggs hatched.

No she is an Old English Bantam :) She is a pretty gray color with some silver pinning and some reddish orange breast feathers. The blue egg is a bit of a mystery baby. It def came from one of my stadard size Americaunas that borrowed her nest one day but not sure which and was covered by the beautiful golden sebright roo we have I think. The two yellow babies are from her and she was covered by a purebred super handsome Old English roo... here are some more pics
The roos

The Americaunas I am thinking laid the blue egg
The one in the back with the golden pinning

And this is my little girl I REALLY want babies from!! lol

OK I am done filling up this thread bragging about my babies! Hehehe ;)

So glad to hear that Britney may be on the mend, Teila!
Pooman, I've heard the eggs can be left for 12 hours - try to not worry about it more than necessary. I definitely wouldn't give the hen new eggs, if you're worried about her taking breaks - no reason to think she wouldn't leave the new eggs too. Best to stick through this hatch and see how it goes (I say with such authority!). :)
TG and Coops and Carrie, any news????

Here are a couple recent shots of my cuties. I posted on the black copper marans thread to get some opinions on sex and future coloring, explaining that they were shipped eggs, hatched by broodies, and they wouldn't be breeding, so I didn't care if they met the standards, and in fact, I like too much copper, and the only response I got was someone saying that if Frida was the mom, she had too much copper and the wrong comb to be a marans. I don't know why I ever try to venture forth from this thread!
Don't know anything about sexing them but they are adorable!

Hey all. Great pictures! Fuzzy butts are so cute and motivation to try again next time. Hoping my Wyandot goes broody again soon. Nothing happening in the bator. Saturday evening would have been day 21. Tempting to break them open to see but will give them another day or so just in case. Very unlikely. Ah well.

Liz, I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't be but I am laughing .. between us you would think we would have learnt our lesson but what's the bet one of us ventures again? lol

They are adorable!! Very adventurous looking munchkins :)

My appointment was 10:45 (got there at 10:30) saw the Doc at 01:30! .. so basically, left home at 9am - 10mins with the Doc (admittedly good news) and home at 03:15. Fun day! lol
Anyway, when I got home Britney was back at the food-bar, filling up! Still 'sleepy looking' but I am even more optimistic than this morning!

Ditto ... TG and Coops and Carrie, any news????

So Our final count is three. I checked the three eggs that didn't hatch and the chicks had fully formed but died :( One looked like it had begun to pip internally but then gave up. No idea what happened. They were all doing great on day 17. Hoping for girls...doing the pullet dance in the run each morning in my bathrobe...good thing the fence is high

Liz...it is amazing how people can be so superior with a keyboard...not to mention unobservant...when they wouldn't be in person. Telling you that if you come on over to the Nor Cal thread. All questions will be answered by really knowledgeable and really nice people...also they are unbeatable as chick and egg resources Teila and others you are more than welcome too. We don't care if you actually live here.

Tomorrow maybe tonight my three and their mommy and her former bff are moving into a new run. Covered so that she can teach them how to be big birds w/o risk of hawk attack. I am guessing they will stay close to their coop today it is COLD!

Thanks, TG. I will definitely check out the Norcal thread when I need some eggs/chicks in the future (ie, next time someone goes broody). I don't want to bug them with my marans questions now, since not even the marans people are interested in the sex/coloring of my birds. They're too busy talking mahogany v. gold on roosters and how many culls they have to do before they get the right one.

I'm sorry to hear about all of the losses everyone is suffering. I can't imagine looking at the little dead chicks - too sad! Maybe this time of year is just a bit too cold for the broody hatches.

Grace is being a real pecker to everyone today. I took her out of the coop and gave her a talking-to. I should take some pictures of her funny molt. She is having a hard time, poor thing, but she doesn't need to take it out on everyone! I've noticed that the chicks will run to my brahma, just like she's one of the broodies. Extra warmth, I imagine.

Anyone have any idea when the moms will lay again? If they're not molting like everyone else, that is. The brahma seems to be trying to lay - I wonder if she's just having a subtle molt.

There are NICE marans people there and they love to answer sexing questions even if it is just to tell you to wait 5 weeks :) Your broodies will start laying again within a week or two of weaning the chicks which can be anywhere but typically from 4-6 weeks. My broody weaned her first clutch at 4.5 weeks but it was during summer. Wondering if she will hang on to these longer.

Good Morning Team Broody!!

Wow; I step away for a few hours sleep and I now have some serious catching up to do!

Pooman, sorry to hear that, not the best news but two is definitely better than none.

CONGRAGULATIONS Carrie! Wonderful news .. three adorable bubbies. Wow, day 24; I have heard the colder weather extends the nesting period, I would have been feeling very despondent by Day 24. Sad news about the little ones that didn’t make it. Lovely pictures, sooo cute and Mumma is gorgeous! You have some beautiful hens and roosters Carrie.

Aaaaw Coops, that is not good news .. there is still some hope though, maybe another day or so might bring babies.

WONDERFUL news TG .. congratulations on the bubbies. Lols @ the pullet dance!

I wonder if Liz is onto something with the losses and cold weather. Here in Aus I was stressing about the heat and feeding Cilla water hourly to stop her dehydrating.

Aaaw Liz, poor Grace! She is just having a bad hair day! Tee hee

Cilla & Co still doing well; Dusty is just being Dusty and Britney is hanging in there, no improvement from yesterday but definitely not worse. I still have no idea what is going on with her .. maybe Liz is right and she is just sulking!! :)

Ah well .. off to work I go………………..
