Little fella pipped in the wrong spot and hit a vein, I got it stopped and he eventually came the rest of the way out be he ain’t right, staying curled up, not walking.

I got him to drink some electrolyte fluid, is there anything else I should do but wait it out?

That one doesn't look good. You can try some Nutri-Drench or Save-a-chick. If it doesn't uncurl and start walking in 24 hours, I would cull. It may pass away before then. If if improves, it has a chance.

Are you in the US? How old is he now or how long since hatch?

Poultri Nutri drench administered directly below the nostrils will be swallowed when it rolls around into the beak (holding the quail chick in your hand and using the bend in your forefinger to help direct the drop and beak together).. it has amino acids that really make a difference above and beyond most electrolyte mixes (possibly because of the patented rapid absorption action that doesn't require digestion) in addition to some E and some B vitamins. importantly in these type of cases thiamine.

:fl

Update: there is still something for sure not right with this lil guy from a behavior perspective, but he eats and drinks and runs around normally most of the time so I think he’ll just be my little weirdo 😅

He plays possum. Like, a lot. He will readily allow me to roll him over like this and script h his belly which is mostly just adorable… but he will flip over likenthis in the brooder also and let his friends tramp all over him 🤨

It honestly looks like brain damage sometimes thebway he seems to forget not to just lay prone on the floor… or like he’s the dumbest quail ever to live, which is REALLY saying something!

The only other thing I notice is that his feet look way more yellow than the other hatchlings. Maybe that’s still the blood loss from the damaged blood vessel during hatch?

Any which way, he’s 4 days old now so I think he’s going to live… whether he will be able to cut it in the aviary is I guess a different question, though! Anyone have a house quail?

You could treat him as u would a house rabbit? One of those nice big indoor rabbit cages with free time out n about when u can supervise him xx

That’s not a terrible idea! Does Max fly around inside? Out big quail are in a 2’ pen right now so they don’t really fly but I get the distinct sense they would of given the space!

I’m not sure how I’d separate a quail and the coonhound (who can’t be trusted with small things!) if he’s going to be literally FLYING through the house! Lol.
