Hate my Waterer!

I use this. I've never cleaned it in almost 8 months. In this pic, it looks discolored towards the bottom and as if algae may be growing in it, but I can assure there isn't any. There are about 5 or 6 pennies in it. Copper is a natural biocide and will not harm the chickens. (Think about all the copper pipes in your house.) I fill it with the hose from outside the run. I throw in few copper fittings into my buckets, no algae, and a little copper is good in a chickens diet.

I couldn't find any place level in my whole run and even when I would put gravel and a flat block in the girls would dig around it and un-level the waterer causing the water all to leak out. So I had to get a hanging one. This one works well- the handle is sturdy and its easy to clean and unhook to fill.

I've not used the red cups, but this thread has a couple people saying theirs are leaking. You hardly ever hear someone say negative things about horizontal nipples.
