Hate my Waterer!

We set up a system with these red cups but they leak. Did we just get cheap ones or do they all leak. ?
Mine leak too! I thought I just installed it poorly. I'm still pretty happy with it though, less mess than before anyway:gigHopefully this doesn't sound like an advertisement and maybe someone already suggested it but I have the Rugged Ranch High End Hen Feeder and Water and just find them to be an overall great product, a little pricy maybe.

The liver cups we have recommend using a little bit of silicone plumbing tape on the threading where you screw it into your bucket/ bottle / pipe.
May help form a bit tighter seal?

where you screw it into your bucket/ bottle / pipe.
I used plumber's tape, yes, but before I bought the "ready-made" ones, I did look up how to put them in to piping myself. I remember there was information about not only the diameter of the hole you are drilling, but the size of the "screwy" bit (I can't remember the correct terms at the moment), but if you drill it yourself and you don't use the right drill bit to give you the right-sized "screwy" bit, you'll get a poor seal.
Of course, none of this matters if they aren't leaking from where they screw in to something else.

I use these Omlet drinkers attached to the run and also use it in my run in the hall. https://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/chicke..._-_green/?rf=0e7a86b554367451e5a9ad7ec1951a23

However I use this one in their run outside in the garden. It seems to keep cool in full sun. It does get iced up on the outside in winter but is normally easy to clear; so far there has been no ice in winter inside the galvanised container. They do also make a larger size.

With the cups, they have to hit the yellow paddle, to make the water come out. They will freeze if you are in a cold climate. I've not read many good reviews on here about them.

If you want an easy, no fuss, clean water 24/7 I highly recommend the horizontal nipples. Use a five gallon bucket, with a gamma lid. Use a one gallon milk jug and add water when needed. You can use a de-icer and your waterer will work in the winter.
Yeah the cups sucked this winter, since they hardly used them, I didn't bother getting a deicer. I want to go with a 5 gallon bucket type waterer, for summer, so I can drop frozen gallon jugs in, to help keep water cool. I'll order some nipples, since I already have vertical, I'll get some horizontal, and see which the girls prefer. ;)

Horizontal don't leak
You can set the bucket down when you want to clean it
You don't have to hang the bucket
You can use a de-icer in the bucket and the nipples will still work in cold climates
All the reasons above are negatives for the vertical nipples
Doh, should have finished reading all the new responses, before responding previously, SOLD, I'm going straight horizontal, making cleaning a breeze. :thumbsup
