Have I lost it when I have determined that one of my chickens are um..

Am I weird (special) that I can tell my chickens apart by the sounds they make?

I have 2 identical white female coturnix quail. The only way I can tell them apart is when they start chirping.

For some reason or another, God has always found it funny to surround me with special needs living beings.

Tell me about it!!! (PDD son, BP husband, a bestie who is HFA AND a multi....) Of course ALL the quail are special. I swear they have the IQ of dirt! Even one of the cats is "special" now that she is almost 22 years old. Poor thing lost her mind a while back

GiddyMoon--just love what you had to say! Had to tell you.

And you know, you are right. God HAS brought you all those 'specials'--- 'cause He knows you WILL care for them. I have always believed that! I suppose other people get 'specials' also; but I imagine most of the time, they 'pass'.......

....and that's all I have to say 'bout that!!!

We have a light Brahma that is huuuuuge and she seems to be "Special" as well....runs like Frankenstein....thought for sure she would be a roo, however at 9 weeks I highly doubt it.....I know she's a she but my son said we need to call her "Stewart" !!!!!! She makes us laugh and we love her dearly.....

Oh boy. I'm right at home here.
Let me start with Bluebell. Poor Bluebell. She is a spacey EE who is floozy. Always looking up to see if she can escape, then once out promptly starts looking for a way back in. She is such a good flier, too; she can get through a 6 in hole after flying 6 feet straight up.

Then there is Noir. She is a little, uh, lacking in the sight department. She has to investigate EVERYTHING and will completely dunk her head in the water every time.

And then my craziest: McFly. Yes she is a good flier, but that's not why I named her that. She is flighty as anything!!! She LITERALLY will sqwauk if you stare at her. She is apparently the outcast of the whole flock; she gets beat up all the time, and lets the whole world know. Her sqwauk is very different, and LOUD. She would get out of the coop every day, and go back in at night, until I finally clipped her wings.

This is the first year I have had turkeys. I have three yards, all separated by a wire fence and gate. When the gate is open, there is an angle, a "V", with an opening of about 8 inches.

One poult tries to follow his/her brethren to the other yard, and gets stopped by the gate and fence. He then backs up and tries again. Same result. He then backs up again and goes a little faster. Nope. Stuck again. Back up again, go real fast, but vear to the right a little, stick head through fence opening and keep his feet moving.

"Ed" was already taken, so the 5 turkeys are: George, Boehner, Palin, Newt, and since I can't tell them apart, the biggest tom in November will be The big "ahem" Cheney.

My late sister and I were having a discussion about our companion animals. She fostered and then adopted "special needs" cats. They were injured or emotionally scarred and un-adoptable when she began to foster them. So we knew they were very special animals.

My pets are all slightly neurotic in some fashion or another. It was my sister's conviction that I got perfectly good animals and MADE them neurotic. Not neurotic BAD, but just odd. Full of personality but with some interesting character and behavior traits.

It's my fault. I did it to 'em. I sure love 'em all, though...

I have a "special" Rhode Island Red chicken too. I'm pretty sure if you cut open her crop all you'd find is dirt and buttons or something.
