Have Just Put Eggs In Tonight 9th August 2011, Anyone Want To Join?

I still can't get the egg turning mechanism to work on my incubator, so this is my new method for hatching these eggs:

She had been attempting to hatch eggs, but it's day 25 now, and none of them are out, so I took the old ones out and put the new ones in. There's an 8th egg that is around 11 days in that I left under her.

Gosh this waiting lark is hard work, wish I could SEE what was going on!

I'm used to breeding small furry creatures but since this is more do it yourself than watching a beastie get fat and give birth, it almost feels like I'm the mummy and the waiting is killing me!

Any more newbies in this thread feeling the same way?

Hi
smile.png

I would like to join in!!! I have never hatched Chicken eggs by myself before! I purchased some eggs from ebay and started them yesterday in one of my Tortoise incubators. I am so very excited!!! I am glad they only take 21 ish days to hatch! My tortoise eggs can take up to a year for some of the species! I have gold Orpingtons, blue Orpingtons and blue and black splash Americaunas!!! I had just turned the eggs so the temp reads 97 but I have it set to 99.5

Good luck with your chicken eggs, I'm so very excited! I have bred rats, mice, fish and had a cat have a litter once but this is so different, its more hands on and now I'm rambling.

Anyway, welcome and keep us updated as you go.

They are totally the opposite of poultry eggs !!! They must never be moved or turned or it will kill the tortoise within! It becomes a challenge to dig the eggs up after they are laid and to get them into the incubators with out them moving any! I Know what you mean by going crazy waiting!!! My carpet is worn thin down the hallway to the incubator room

Ok, I candled my eggs tonight after being out of town for a few days. Out of the 7 eggs, I could see definite, obvious veining in 3 of them. I couldn't see anything in the white egg, which should have been easiest, so I'm not sure that one is going to go. The other two are darker eggs, so I'm not too concerned yet.

Really sad news though. I had a total of 8 eggs under my broody- seven that I started the same day as everyone else here, and then another that would've been around 14 days today. I couldn't find that further along egg. Then realized the cinder block I have up for separation was on its' side. Yup.

Crushed egg, and mostly developed chick inside. In fact, I was a little surprised it was as far along as it was. I'm pretty sad about it.
