My polish hen is sitting on eggs. 2 super cuties hatched sometime Wed morning very early, one was dry by 6:20 am the other wet. When we moved our hen and eggs the night before they had pipped and you could hear them chirping so cute!!!

Well this morning #6 egg was pipped and all day it has chirped and you can see it move and hear it peck but the hole has not changed. It is not hatching.

They are day 20-21

At what point do you help? My grandmother says dont but I dont want it to get stuck???

Help!:|

I'm with your Grandmother...it can take them 24 hours or longer to pip and zip out even if they are under a broody...but it's your choice...I've never helped when a broody is setting.....

I have never had chickens hatch before!!!!

I had not planned on helping, but I worried and thought I should check! I would hate to lose one due to my not doing something.

So far mama is doing great! She lets us see them and the 2 babies all ready born have such personalities!!!! Too cute!!! I will post pics asap!

Just so you are aware - If you continue to worry the hen or lift her up to look or inspect the eggs you can compromise the hatch. She may get fed up with being bothered and leave the nest all together and abandon the unhatched eggs. Mother Nature and the hen know what they are doing. Looking for pipped eggs also lets out all the humidity the hen has created and cause the chicks to struggle trying to hatch and sometimes they die.

Please, let her tend the eggs and in a few days she will show you the chicks. It may take longer for the broody to hatch her eggs. One of mine didn't hatch until day 23.
