Having one one "seeing" eye is why I never ever hold chickens that close to the good eye... anything that shines and is reflective they go for it!............ take care.
The contact was fine, so I guess I jerked away fast enough. I have renamed that pullet Chicken Pecker now.
Mine usually also go for my wedding ring, the snaps and buttons on my jeans, my toddler's necklace, and my toes. My rooster kept pecking my toes so hard that he drew blood and left blisters. My feet look like they've had some sort of horrible pox or something. I put a stop to it one day when it hurt so bad I jerked my foot up and kicked him way harder than I meant to. He hasn't come near me (or my feet) since.
when my chickens are on my shoulder or my head they eye they are closest too is always shut ALWAYS they go for my eyes but all they have ever gotten was my eye lid and it bruised. but they don't mind my piercings i guess i smacked one for going for my Monroe right after i pierced it sheesh that hurt something fierce glad you can still see
That's so strange. My chickens really seem to know that an eye shouldn't be pecked. As a kid, I used to show people how gentle my chickens were by holding them up so their beak was less than an inch from my eye. In all the years I've had them, not one has ever gone near my eyes though they do like freckles etc. I have only ever had silkies & silkie cross standard Old English Games (and 1 cochin).

Ditto on the parrots - I've left myself in position for some real bruisers from my macaws!
My chickens sometimes send warnings when they get interested in my eyes - some pupil flashing, the neck cranes.. but often there is no warning.. and I am left grateful that I wear glasses!! They make great protective shields!!!
For what it's worth, this is the only time i've ever gotten it in the eye. It's feeling perfectly fine now!
My DD thinks it's hilarious when the chickens peck at every freckle and mole on my arms. One of my ducks likes to peck...or nibble...whatever ducks do. She will try to eat my DD's long hair, any trash on the ground that happens to blow in, the side of DD's blow up kiddie pool, seriously anything! She's like a goat trapped in a Pekin body. I can't tell you how many things I have fished out of her bill...
My sweet LuLu pecked me right in the eyeball when she was about 4 weeks old.
I now warn everyone to keep them away from the face.
My chickens go for all the usual....wedding rings, freckles etc.
I have one that pecks at my hair in the morning when I am letting them out.
I have to stoop down to open their door and she hops up on the feed container and plays with my hair.
At first I thought she was telling me to hurry up but she always stays behind for some petting so I guess she is just saying Good Morning.
