Have you ever relocated and taken your flock with you?

We have a minivan (AKA swagger wagon) and an economy car. I'm not sure if we're doing a U-haul. We were hoping to do the POD thing for most of our stuff. This is a hard move - we've done it before getting me here, but I only had an apartment full of crap. Thank God we won't have to go through Manhattan this time. That will make this much easier. What a nightmare that is. To some degree it's too bad we don't have to because I'm sure it would make for some good laughs...

I wish we still had our tow trailer - that would have made it a little easier.

The ball was just put into motion today and we're hoping to hear more in the next few days. Really glad I posted this, but people here are always totally awesome so I'm not surprised at the really helpful (and entertaining) replies

My parents moved to Ky from NJ, and not a critter was left. Horses were easy- commercial van, but the house cats, barn cats, dogs and donks were moved by mom and dad. They used various cages and stopped along the way. Everybody did great! We had a 2 horse trailer, which made ventilation a non-issue. If you are using cars ventilation should be fine! Have fun and good luck!!

We have fourteen, and all would go with us if we moved. We would manage it somehow.

I moved back home in December and brought back with me 7 chickens and a duck. I had a temporary pen set up where I was staying because I only had the chickens for a few weeks before I left. I packed them all up in a large plastic dog crate that I put straw in, then covered with trash bags and duct tape because I didn't have a tarp. I left the back uncovered because it had holes in it, and I also used the holes to feed them apples. The duck I had in a separate smaller crate(cat size) that was also wrapped in a trash bag and duck tape with straw. The crates were then put in the back of the truck and tied to prevent flipping and sliding. Drove from Maryland to South Ga, 13 hour drive. It was snowing in Va all night. Took 1 1/2 days to get home. They all did fine and are all currently chasing around my two new hens, sans the duck, he was for Christmas.
I feed them apples because I thought they would best keep them hydated and feed, didn't put any food or water in crates with them, would just make a mess.[/url]
