Have you ever seen a peacock that was really this color?

Yes they are purple. But what isn't mentioned is that the light must hit it just right. Otherwise they appear blue.

Purple peafowl are a real variety. I don't raise purples so I can't say if the color was edited on that photo or not since I haven't seen them in bright light. If you scroll down on the same page they show more photos which look more accurate as far as the coloration I am used to seeing for purples.

Here is a website with photos of purple peafowl. The first photo of a purple peacock is more typical coloration of what I am used to seeing in purples: http://triplebpeacockfarm.weebly.com/purple.html

Their feather color does fade throughout the year until they grow new feathers so maybe that is just what they look like in full sun with fresh feathers, or that photo could be edited.

E-Bay is a great place to advertise, and show your intelligence as well. Keep an eye out for the India Blue 1/2 Black Shoulder that is rare and they have been working on this for many years. They advertised them last year and I noticed another ad from them last week, still stating these were "rare" because the were 1/2 black shoulder. If you look closely at the bird in their ads,he's a plain barred winged IB Peacock with several black wing feathers, but is by no means "rare" and if they have been working on them for years,as they state, they have been wasting a lot of time. I have 3 barred winged 2yr old IB Males and every one of them has the same black wing feathers identical to the male they use in their ads. When they sell again and if I catch it,I will add the link here.

I've got purple BS and had never seen them look this purple. Had me worried there. Anyway, its a beautiful picture.

That looks more natural than the other does.

I've never seen "purple" in such a contrast with a blue right next to it and it don't look like a very sunshiney day in the picture. And direct bright sunlight is about the only way you can truly see purple from blue,,that pic has been enhanced, no doubt! That color don't even look "purple" more of a wierd blue.If I was to take a picture of my bssp male Roadtrip, and do the same of my Purple BSSP male Phonecian it would be imposible to tell the diffrence unless the Purple bssp was in bright sunlight and you overlooked the few rust colored feathers across his back.
