I have a 5 week old duckling who became Niacin deficiency. tried saving it by giving it niacin water and Polyvisol shot. The poor thing is almost vegetable, Can't walk and eat but can stand for few seconds. It has a wry neck too. I give it water and Poly Vi Sol drops. Should I give up? I wanna hear some success stories of saving a duckling with severe Niacin deficiency.

Don't give up!! My baby duck was real bad looked like he was going to dying. He's slowly pulling through. Going on almost 4 weeks now. He went from just stopped walk to lame. I put meal worms dried or alive in his electrolyte water. I break up sugar peas into small pieces and put the m into his water. Seperate not with the meal worms. It's his snacks throughout the day. I bought a long storage bin with wheels that you can put under the bed. It's about 6 inches deep thats his pool for his physical therapy. He moves legs in it. I have to watch that he doesn't get super wet and drown since he can't shake off. I bought Nician vitamin at walmart. They only had capsules so I cut the tip and sprinkle some on about 4 mealworms and let him eat them from the palm of my hand. Hopefully some of what I'm doing might help you out. Is your duck walking backwards? Try meal worms in electrolyte water. They go nuts over them. Maybe that will entice him your duck to eat. What is wry neck?

Your duckling is likely deficient in more than just niacin. Poly vi sol also will not have enough to treat for an actual deficiency. You need the full range of b vitamins as well as vitamin e and selenium, in therapeutic doses. With these things, you can absolutely save the duckling. Is it possible to go to a grocery store with a pharmacy today?

how much poly go sol have you given and when did the wry neck start?

Poultry stores are closed in my Area due to lockdown and online shopping is impossible due to lockdown. The only grocery food I can feed them are cat food, dog food, rice and oats. I am compensating with what is available.

This is my first time hand raising. Most of my ducks are raised by their mothers but recently I have a predator problem.

The wry neck started 3 days ago.

What is the duckling being fed?

Could you take a video of the duckling walking, upload it a video platform like Youtube or Vimeo, and copy/paste the link here?

Wry neck is not a disease, but rather a symptom of many other diseases's/conditions, but for the most part, we see ducklings come down with Wry Neck either due to being deficient in thiamine( B1), or vitamin E. So since it won't hurt, I'd start him both on those two vitamins, and see if there is an improvement, if there isn't improvement after some time, that itself will tell you something else serious going on, not nutritionally related.

I feel your pain!

I am so sorry your duckling is poorly - but it sounds like you and they are in fighting mood which is good.

We had a very poorly duckling this year and we spent five weeks giving him extra supplements.

We gave a b complex and an AC+E vitamin with selenium in his water with honey added for energy. A splash of acv was added sometimes.

We also had problems getting all sorts so I utilised my other half coffee bean grinder and ground down tablets for humans.

By the time it was all in the water, it looked like lucozade / Gatorade.

You can only do what you can with what you've got.

Whatever the outcome, it's comforting to know you did all you could.

Sending you hugs - I know it's stressful but pls keep plugging away as being consistent with whatever supplements you give is important.

And pls keep us updated!
