Have you noticed that a lot of old saying refer to chicken keeping?

As a new chicken owner this year, what really comes to mind so many times is "you chicken"--as in accusing someone of being scared--there are so many predators out there waiting to gobble them up that they have to be afraid of many things.
 
has anyone ever heard "like socks on a rooster?" My dad pulled this one out on us years ago claiming he heard some old guy say it when he was like 20 and working in an auto shop.........we all thought he was nuts! ...he also said it meant something was good...when we all assumed it would mean something was pointless or didn't make sense...

when talking about a mean woman
i had no clue what that really meant until i got my first broody
i wouldnt mess with a broody hen for anything
