Have you seen this before?

I don't have a flock, but the internet has failed me. Today, I bought hard boiled eggs from my work cafeteria. When I cut into the yolk, I saw this white rings in the boiled yolk. Does anyone know why this happened? Is the egg safe to eat?

Those are odd looking yolks. They're probably ok to eat (but I might not just because they are strange looking ).

I have no idea what caused that but hopefully someone else comes on that can say.

I agree. Probably safe to eat but I always air on the side of caution when it comes to eggs and meat. But I can't say I've ever seen that from my hens but when eggs come from a store they chickens who laid them are kept in much different conditions so that maybe why

The yolks have the bullseye that shows the embyros were fertilized by rooster. There is no growing chick inside unless they were kept in an incubator /or sat on by a broody hen.

They are perfectly safe to eat.

Thank you for the information. When I looked online earlier, I thought that might be the case, but whenever someone referenced it, the yolk was never cooked and all the pictures I found, the bulls eye was significantly smaller.

Hi and welcome to BYC It tends to "spread out when hard boiled. I've only seen it a couple of times and fed them back to the birds when I did. We're so happy you've joined us
