Have you started your Garden yet?

I have that problem now, I want them to bloom, not have giantic foliage! but they are runty. I would assume something low in nitrogen would work to give them a boost without growing more leaves than fruit.
My husband likes things lush and green. Which is great for greens and lettuce, but it really woahs up on the fruit production. Low first number and high second and third number like a 4-6-8 should help.
If you can find it they are suposed to make a 2-12-12. Good luck!

My only surprise with them was that the pollen will make your watermelon stringy. keep them away from your other squashes. And then, every seed will come up twice next year... and then the following year... but everyone is thrilled to get them! you are supposed to be able to eat them small, but they smell like dirty socks, so I couldn't bring myself to do it.
they are a lot of fun!

Bleenie my MIL's parents retired to Washington years ago. Her dad would go fishing every single day. Her mom was getting pretty sick of all the fish so they would bury the guts and the fish they couldn't eat in the garden plot.
The stories I had heard about that garden. They had a huge harvest every year.

Our neighbor went out and probed the ground. The temp was 38 degrees, too cold to try to plant anything yet.

So I may get to turn the dirt before sunday! I have to get it all marked and the tiller will be here in a little while. I am still going to have to wait a while before putting the veggies out but glad i finally get to have it turned!

We planted last month. The corn is about 4" tall now and the peas are 6-8. They are already growing on some wire

I've started tomatoes and squashes indoors and some egg plants. I had turned over some beds but the chickens got in and did some more turning. Most of it out of the raised beds. Now I've finally secured my beds I think. Except for my one bantam Friz. I should post pics. I used raised beds as they are easier for me to deal with. Easier and less weed pulling. My garlic is coming up though. I would have planted spinach if it hadn't gotten to cold and wet to work outside.

Yeah, I was told they taste like okra when they are small. Eh, I don't like Okra...so I probably won't try them. Thanks for the tip about the melons and other squash...I'll keep that in mind.

All I have planted so far is onions. I'm cleaning the garden & will hopefully get it tilled next week. I have 10 various tomatoes I bought from my school. I need to purchase peppers & eggplants. I start most of my other stuff from seed

I use some fertilizer that I got from a store called Worm's Way. The fertilizer is called fish and poop, and it does a great job. This year though I am just going to try using compost and composted chicken poo to save money.
So far all I have in the garden is peas and the garlic I put in in the fall. The weather is really not warm enough yet for anything else.
