We had to let my girl Beth go on Ssturday. She had been unwell for 2 weeks and didnt respond to any vet treatment, spent 2 nights there and deteriorated quite quickly; she couldn't stand up or balance and kept falling over and lying on her side. We made the decision to put her to sleep on Saturday afternoon.

She was always slightly off from the other 2 chickens and vet visits found nothing. My partner says her life was probably always going to be short.

She was the cuddliest of my 3, always separating from the other 2 chickens to come over and honk at me or peck my socks. She didnt object to being picked up and stroked and would fall asleep in my arms, or on my chest when she was a baby. She was the most enthusiastic scuffler of the 3 and loved to get in the sandbox asap and roll around. She was the sweetest little chicken.

Having a rough time with this one so I thought I would share.

Hi, Sorry you have lost you darling girl. My heart goes out to you. Many years ago
i had a chicken, who got bullied so bad, i brought her in the house. Everytime we tried to
put her back, she get bullied again. She was petrified everytime we tried. So loved her, that much, she became our pet chicken. Everyday she would spend hours in the garden,
with me. Then when family was in bed, i would have her on my lap, where we would watch TV lol. Then if i was in the kitchen, she would be there with me. We were so close.
She lived for 5yrs, then she became egg bound. Gave her warmth baths ect.
But the egg had burst, and caused infection. Within hours i lost her, she passed on
my lap. I was heartbroken, took me ages to get over it. We had a special bond, i still
miss her now. Funny thing is, she was identical breed to yours. Her name was CHEEKY, because she was. lol I know how hard it is for you. But never forget, those beautiful memories you shared together. Take care.:love

Thank you for your reply. sorry to hear about your girl. They really are our precious babies. I'm relieved by the fact that from the second we got them I've done nothing but film and photograph their every move so I have lots of memories of her. Taking some time today with my other 2 girls and just enjoying watching them roll around and be ridiculous.

I'm so sorry! :hugsChickens are so dear but there are so many things out to get them, from tiny bacteria and parasites to predators and bad weather. However briefly you have them, they have care and love that most of the chickens that ever lived didn't and will not. You are a wonderful chickener and I wish you and your flock all the best!

I'm glad you shared your story with us- your fellow BYC friends, we understand- it is many of our stories too and we feel your pain. I am so sorry for your loss. :hugs I hope time and your surviving two help to ease your sadness. You sound like a super good chicken mom. Not a lot of people would have done what you did. :)

PS. You can share some of your photos ???
