Having progressive pictures to help ID chicks

Very good point! It is a great idea to have a "best case" for pictures, but something is always better than nothing.

Anyone want to split up the breeds for us to focus on, and anyone want to write up a rough draft of our instructions for people?

I know we want to focus on the breeds on the list, but I do think we should happily accept photos of other breeds as well.

I only have 5 weeks up on the page but I have the others if you want them, I also have full size pics you can have -very big.

They are 8 weeks old now and taking consistant pics is getting harder (impossible!) but still doing weekly.

I think it would be nice for those who need to ID a chick and make the search real easy like...

number of toes

main body color

comb type

legs... feathered or clean

etc. This would save people from going through 8000 pictures..LOL

Great idea. Maybe we could just start by having basic info on each breed along with the pictures, and then (as admin's programing time allows) and we get more breeds represented we could create a search function and/or group breeds by each characteristic.

I would like to add physical and sexual maturation ages to your list, so people can guesstimate when their chickens will be ready for butchering and/or laying eggs if appropriate.

I"m happy to start working. Just tell me what I need to be doing and where and I'll get started!

I"m happy to format Ella's pics, just not sure how we actually want them.

I haven't gone to the database site yet. That's on my agenda for today

Ok Teammates ... here we go.

I've put together three teams with the people who said they wanted to be involved. As more people ask to get involved we will add to teams or make new teams to cover other breeds.

I also gave each team the breeds they will start with - there was no real rhyme or reason (unless one of the people said they already had pictures of certain breeds)... I just randomly added breeds to teams.

I'll post in a little while with final Rules as to what type of pictures we are looking for.

Feel free to PM individuals if you know they have a breed you are looking for and ask politely if they have pictures of any of the ages that we will be looking for.

If we get multiple pictures of the same breed at the same age, etc. (and we should get lots) we will keep all the pictures but use the better ones.
