Having to build a NEW Coop for my chickens. Want ideas and designs.

I think its great that people use recycled materials for there coops. For larger coops It would take such a long time to gather the materials. Here are a few pics of my coop. These were during the build earlier this year. I will try to get a few new pics.

I have no problem with recycled , 00 cost , and while some may not want to spend alot on a coop, I did:)

Didn't start out that way, but it ended up that way..I renovated part of my 12 x 18 dutch barn, yes it has wood floors, got stall matting (actually pretty darn cheap) using a 5 x12 area for the chickens. Unfortunately my barn got smashed to smithereens via Storm Sandy. I am rebuilding, using my insurance money from the barn. (thank god they covered it).

So while I am in awe of coops being built out of whatever materials available, I personally, want what I want, while one may think it's to much work, I enjoy doing it.

I agree to make a shed of a certain size you need certain materials. But where i didn't pay for my floor or sides i get to use some of that saved money on extras if i choose. Very nice coop you have there though, how many fowls do you house in it???

I have 2 4x8 stalls in there for a couple breeders and the rest of the coop houses about 75-80 free range birds. All that is in there is 2 30lb feeders hanging from the rafters and 2 5 gallon waterers and 80 feet of roosts. They are only in there from dusk until about 6 am then they free range all day.

Not compared to some people on here! The funniest thing about the free rangers is that in the summer it's usually 100-110 sometimes more and they are all spread out on the roosts and in the winter they are all pushed together on each side of the coop with about 2ft open in the middle of each roosts. I have a lot of friends and family that like farm fresh eggs!

When spring comes there are a lot of eggs being hatched and I grow out many young birds.

Dirt floors depend on where you live. You can't put everyone into the same basket saying they're all daft for not just building straight on the ground... If I tried a dirt floor here, well... I'd need to find some dirt first, it's all mud. The ground stays wet all year long here. If I were to build my own, I'd build it up and off the ground by a couple of feet to stop the damp seeping in through the walls.

lol. Yeah it's funny to watch the small bantams trying to snuggle up under the standards like little chicks but end up nearly pushing them both of the roost. I'm sure in the summer you have quite a bit of trouble with all those broody hens. Do you just give them some eggs to hatch and sell the chicks.
