Hi, we have had a broody on eggs for a while on 3 eggs and she has been a great momma we had 2 of the 3 hatch on Tuesday 1 still not hatched and she is showing very little interest in sitting on the egg anymore does this mean its dead? We have done the float test and hubby is convinced it moved but upond candling the egg we can see a good sized air sack but no movement or noises coming from the egg just unsure when to admit defeat with this egg? Today is day 23 for it ( was laid a day after the already hatched 2)
Cheers were so new to all this

Welcome to the wonderful and sometimes stressing world of chick hatching. Given it was placed the day after the other I would give it at least another 24 hours. If she is not sitting on it you may need an incubator. Just don't rush into assisting the egg too soon. I had a muscovy that left one egg on the nest. Was cool but still alive. Put in on in the bator. After 6 hours with a pip but no progress, I was inpatient and assisted. Turned out the duckling just needed more time and thanks to me it did not get it. It died a couple hours later. Better wait and see then go in too soon. Good luck!

Don't put a live eggs in water unless you are trying to kill it.
Can you candle the egg in a dark room and get a few clear photos if it?

Were those pics taken on the same day? I am assuming so and at different angles. Give it a day or two more... incubate if mother has left the nest with the others. I had two which were left and hatched just fine... st the time i had no incubator so i used a heat light in a styrofoam cooler to finish intubation

It looks like this egg has drawn down:

Your not seeing any shawdow like movement in the air cell?

It might just hatch. It might have quit.
Only time will tell.:fl
