I hear that works best in you move it often. I'll be curious to see if it works.

Good advice. I'll take it.

I am so sorry. I hope they come home. We lost 12 chickens to some stray dog a few months ago. It broke into their house and just killed them. Did not eat them just killed. I was devastated. Please keep us informed.

Thank you. I'm pleased to report that one of the two Ameraucanas came home last night WITH the blue splash Marans, Madonna !!!!!!! (see post #34). It was a wonderful sight indeed.

we have several hawk families around our neighbor hood and have a family of screech owls living in the back of our property. (boy can they boom)
Also, have lots n lots of fat sassy squirrels running and breeding like mad. And we have fat wild rabbits to boot!
Got several neighbors around me with chickens. Most of the folks in my area prefer the game chickens. The predators have a buffet to choose from. (The hawks around us are even on the fat side!)

Hang some shiny CDs randomly along with your owl. That should help befuddle them. Hope all goes well and grats on the survivors that made it home.

Not only did I put out the owl decoy and hang the CDs, but I had a bunch of shiny silver Christmas tree bulbs that I sprinkled around the yard and woods too! LOL It looks pretty silly, but is obviously necessary.

i wish i could tell you something really comforting. You had allot of good advise for me last winter when I was just starting out (you probably don't even remember) but you were really helpful. Thanks.

I so totally DO remember, Jill!. I appreciate you checking in, that's as helpful as any advice I could get to solve the problem.

You have the right to defend your livestock against predators. After I lost 11 hens to "birds of prey" (in 3 weeks time), we "relocated" them permanently. I sell my eggs and this greatly affected my income and ability to provide eggs to my buyers.
