Hawk attack: what else can I do? Is vet worth it?

My favorite girl has been attacked by something this morning...I suspect a hawk based on the dime sized wounds on her shoulders and complete lack of feathers on her neck. I have for her in quarantine in a crate in the house (it's 102 here in Austin). I put lanacane on her wounds and a watching her. She won't drink anything and is lying very droopy...going I and out of sleep. Is it shock? I have nursed another hen back to health before, but I care so much more about this one I contemplating a vet visit...but what can they do really? Is it a waste of money?

Suggestions appreciated

Honestly I personally in my onion don't think its a waste of money espicallly if she is your special bird. sometimes they know the exact medicine's to help in a specific case or situation. You have to weigh your options.if your confident in your ability and know exactly what she needs to heal then I would do it at home but sometimes its beyond our ability then at that point I'd take her to the vet.if you think the vet can offer her something more like medication and care you could not offer then yes I would not hesitate. to take her in for care.I just finished nursing one of my own flock for wry neck but I knew the vet could do no more for her than I could do at home. Its really up to you. If you have a good vet and he knows how to treat birds and you feel he can offer her better care and medication then take her in.I do hope she recovers quickly and I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks all. Unfortunately, I lost her today. It was a canine and not a hawk as I had thought and her trachea was punctured. We think it was a fox based on where the attack happened and the fact that my dogs were locked inside this morning when it happened. I had the vet euthanize her as this was one I swore I wouldn't kill nor would I eat her. She was the only one of my girls that I thought of as a pet. I'm just glad she is out of pain as it would have taken a couple of days for her to go naturally and I just couldn't use the hatchet on her despite having done so with other girls in the past.

I'm so very sorry. Loosing any hen is hard but the special ones are traumatic. I'm glad you brought her to the vet so she could go to sleep. Take care of yourself.

Very Sorry, how awful.
Her trachea, oh the worst place of all.

Had it not been in that organ she sure had a chance.
Sorry.
