Hawk attack - will my chicken survive?

View attachment 1189906 One of our chickens was attacked by a hawk yesterday. Her wound does not look very big

, but she is not walking and cannot stand. She does have some strength in her legs and will drink water from a dropper. Not eating or pooping though.

Just want to know if I can do more for her, and if she has a chance for survival?

Triple antibiotic cream (Not pain relief) will help fight off infection. Add Gatorade to her water if available. Chickens can survive some crazy stuff... Try to tempt her with some mealworms or scrambled eggs. Best of luck.

If she will not eat, however, you will need to tube feed her.

Keep her warm and dry but not hot. I recommend jensen violet, A.K.A. Blue Kote, or "Purple" medicine. Make sure that there are no feathers in the wound.

I had this happen last Monday, and I thought for sure I was going to lose her. The wound is actually healing well. I hope she's getting better!

Thank you everyone for your replies and words of encouragement. Currently, McMuffin is eating, drinking, and pooping. She can stand and walk a very short distance. However, her balance is "off", She often uses her wing to keep from falling over and cannot walk more than a few inches. Her wound is healing nicely. I don't think the hawk got her spinal cord (the wound was off-center on her back), but maybe she had a stroke.
She made good progress the first few days but now is showing little further improvement. Now we need to decide if we need to create a separate habitat, because she cannot live in our bathtub much longer!

It can take some time for them to heal
I have a pullet who at about 8 wks had a hawk attack. Her neck was scalped, blood coming out her mouth and eye... She has been in the house for a month and is healed up but when I take her out she just hunches over and does not act like a chicken.. not scratching in the house either.. just sits in a parrot cage and watches out the window or the tv.. I really was not planning on a house chicken.

If she’s not eating try some nutridrench and give water directly afterwards. Keep the wound clean and keep the hen in a warm dry place on a comfortable bed of pine shavings/bedding that you typically use.
