That is a felony. If you are caught, Uncle Sam will lock you up. I certainly would not publish advice to commit a federal crime.

3. What activities can I do without a depredation permit?

You do not need a federal depredation permit to harass or scare birds (except eagles and threatened or endangered species), provided (a) birds are not killed or injured and (b) birds sitting on active nests (nests with eggs or chicks present) are not disturbed to the point that it causes the eggs to not hatch or the chicks to die or become injured.

Hazing or harassment techniques (e.g., horns, pyrotechnics, propane cannons)

I had a long and lengthy face to face talk with a Federal Officer. Zero projectile.
"Nothing can be launched at a bird of pray."

Bottle rockets/tennis balls/sticks/cotton balls- NOTHING allowed to be launched.
The only thing LEGAL you are allowed to do is wave your arms and yell, without launching anything towards them.
You may apply for a permit but they are seldom granted.

Yes, aiming "at the bird" will cause injury...which you can't do. You don't shoot "at the bird"....

The info I got is right from the government's permit application page...

Okay...??? Crusade? Jeesh, I just pointed out what our own government states (in writing, no less) that is permissible as scare tactics...and has "scare tactics" as a check-off as a prerequisite to applying for a permit. :idunno

Well the supervised visit did not go as well as we had hoped. She still has the wound in her neck but was more active today so we thought we'd give a visit with her sisters a shot. She did well right out the gate but she got her head pecked 3 times, trampled on by the food dish and finally PECKED IN HER THROAT WOUND before my mother instinct said enough is enough. I scooped little Persephone up and ran her inside. She threw a fit but i wasnt about to let my poor baby i just took care of incessently for a whole week die because she has the lower pecking order. Maybe im just being over protective...we will give it another shot tomorrow.

Them owl hawks, I shoot every single one I see. mmmhmmm hawk pie, my favorite E4E78EDF-0EDC-4FED-81D8-82B31A51E4A2.jpeg
In all realness though, you should get a roof for the run to prevent any further attacks

Awwwww... ((hugs)). I know the feeling. I have an injured baby too (not from a predator attack) that I have been nursing back to health. I tried to put her back with the other babies and adults but within 5 minutes two of the other babies pecked her right on her boo boo. Swooped her up and brought her back in the house with me. I hold her and we watch Breakfast at Tiffany's cooing at each other.

Todays visit went a little better. We opened the door so the ones with the higher pecking order would run out and put her in with the three lowest. She was holding her own quite well. However one did peck in her wound so we brought her back in. She didnt have a fit this time almost like she knew it was for her safety.
