Hawk detergent

What works for deterrent for hawks?
Boy do I wish I knew, because we have a few hawks around here just waiting for an opportunity to get our birds. They literally sit in the trees watching them.

Anyway, what I do - and idk if it’s helpful- is hang this iridescent tape/foil that I got on Amazon from the netting, fencing, and trees. It looks ridiculous, but it really does catch the light and I think it may discourage hawks. We also have a variety of wind chimes that I hang from the tree branches over our chickens, free, ranging area, which is netted. Finally, I try to have various obstacles that I move around within the chickens’ ranging area, these include a big convex mirror that I move about to try and scare any hawks who might be thinking of coming in.

All of this said, we did have a hawk come through our old netting and kill a hen last winter. I have redone the. Netting since then and so far so good.

Good luck!

Predators would starve if a piece of plastic flapping in the wind stopped them . Most hunt chickens when desperate for a meal like when they have babies to feed or they're migrating.Prorated over the life of a chicken a little fencing goes a long way(pennies a day)

At the end of the day prevention is the only thing that works.I have 4 hens I started with in 21 and I'd be devastated if something got one of them. I've learned to only free range a limited amount of time daily depending on the weather, time of year and always with my dogs out

these are all sections of the 3000 sq ft duck& chicken area.
my geese live separately and don’t need as much hawk cover.

Love your area. So cozy. I was looking for the bamboo teepee? Also is that a real tortoise or a statue?
tortoise is a statue - and I used to have lots of bamboo teepees but not anymore. i just took 3 to 5 bamboo poles and tied them together near the top and then spread the legs out and all different directions and jammed them into the ground. I did that before I got all this playground equipment. I’ve been collecting the houses and slides off of Facebook marketplace for great deals. I got a $350 little tykes schoolhouse for only 20 bucks last week for the geese feeding area. I’m still putting it together. Need help to get the roof on. Their food bowls will go in there to stay dry . i’ve had my ducks for over eight years now, so this is been a long-term little at a time kind of project.
