Hawk deterrent?

When I bought my house 10 yrs ago it had 3 mature trees that formed a canopy from fence to fence (it's not a huge yard, about 30x60.) Well, mature turned into decaying, diseased and uprooted  , so now I hang some shade sails around and was wondering what sort of deterrent this might be for hawks if at all.

I was at a public pool near a lake and they had these lightweight lines running all over in a fairly open and random arrangement. The lifeguard said it was enough to keep the seagulls (or was it the geese) away from the pool when the pool was not being used.

Other than giving the chickens a bit more visual cover would the sails and guy ropes interrupt an attack path or escape path? Or are these birds of prey more nimble than the gulls and geese down by the pool?

sorry, no pictures, but if you search for 'triangle shade sail' in the 16 foot size you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Any cover is better than no cover at all. So, yes, should be helpful. We have big hickories/oaks in and around fenced run and, once they leaf out we're good. In the meantime we use fishing line strung with CD's (shiny side up), we're hawk-heavy this spring and so far so good. Do they have a smaller covered area to hide out in/under? That way they shouldn't get as stressed (or worse). Good Luck.
