Hawk problem? Talk to your DNR!

Indiana is VERY old school redneck and our livestock has almost just as many rights as we do. DNR (at least in Indiana) is governed and funded by both state and federal governments. They are required to enforce these laws, and they can also issue the appropriate paperwork to alter these laws when needed. I'm going to assume the case number was a prelude to a permit - if I see him again I will ask.

I posted this to help out those in EXTREME cases of hawk predation, as I've seen a few threads on here this fall where people have been bombarded by hawks. I don't need to know how to cover my coop and run, or need to know what the laws are, like I said, I'm just trying to help anyone who may be in a similar situation.

I am in no way bragging about anything illegal on the internet. Canada has serious laws both Provincial and Federal protecting wildlife and far stricter Firearms Regulations that the USA. We also have Federal laws protecting Farms and Livestock, that trump those laws.

I have no idea if The USA has a federal Right to Farm Act, or what laws you have in place regarding livestock, but where I live if an animal, domestic or wild, is on your property and harassing your livestock you are within your rights as a farmer to put it down.

Doesn’t apply to city dwellers, or hobby keepers, you must be a registered farm and earn a certain amount of money on your property from farming. I don’t advocate violence as a first response, but it is sometimes necessary to protect your animals from predators....
I have posted similar information about laws in the USA allowing limited predator management. To get a permit you must show that you experience a certain level of $$$$ damage. These permits are commonly issued to fish farms who are experiencing loses to active fish eating birds like cormorants.
