Hawk vs Owl MO

I agree with cmom.
My neighbor had a hen taken by a fox (I saw it happen) and she returned a couple days later. She was pretty torn up on her back and tail area. The neighbor put her down. (Which I thought was pretty crappy considering the poor hen survived the attack and living in the woods for 3 days. But, not my circus, not my monkies).

I think it was a fox and somehow she escaped and the fox abandoned her for some reason and she hid. Owls usually are more at dawn and dusk, nighttime predators. If you have a game camera put it up because more than likely the predator will be back, either aerial or ground predator. Most likely it has been lurking looking for an opportunity. Good luck...
Yes, we are going to put up a game camera in a few locations in the back of the property, I'd like to see what critters are roaming around back there at night. I have been taking the huskies back to that area so they would leave their scents as a deterrant so if it was a fox, hopefully the fox will smell the dogs and think twice about entering our property back there. We have woods to the west and north of our property, and we are also in a low lying area relative to the woods, so even though the sun is still up, it is a little darker by the woods. Believe it or not, I did see one of the GH owls flying low, about 5 feet off of the ground heading back into the woods around 6:00pm sometime around Labor Day. It was huge! We have also seen one sitting on a branch of a birch tree that is growing right in front of the woods on the west, also on a summer evening but when the sun is still up. A very impressive creature, to say the least!
