Hello BYC new here and I'm trying to find out if chickens are allowed in Hazlet NJ?

Code has literally no reference to poultry, chickens, or livestock. The only animals covered are dogs and cats (and "wild" animals which are defined as non-domesticated).

§ 133-6 Maintenance of penned animals.
Dogs and other animals which are penned outside of the home shall be adequately housed in shelters of appropriate size for the size of the animals. Adequate food and water shall be provided for the animals.

§ 133-11 Keeping wild animals.
No person shall own, harbor or keep any wild animals, including but not limited to skunks, raccoons and foxes, as pets unless said animal is purchased from a duly certified pet shop and/or an appropriate state or federal agency.

Both dogs and cats are limited to 4.

You can always call the city, but there doesn't appear to be any language forbidding keeping chickens, and you'd be extra safe if you limited your flock to 4.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting chickens.

You got some good advise from the other members, I hope you are able to get some chickens!

Welcome to BYC. Type New Jersey in the search bar at the top of the page. Links to the NJ state thread should appear.

Thank you. Checked and they have a lot about dogs and cats, but nothing about chickens. Also about wild life. So I assume I'm good.
