Also: Follow your gut & do not put him in charge of children (especially) ... or animals.

it can be hard yes. my daughter only watches the kiddos when we are gone or on date night we pay her and she can have a friend over so she does not mind. she pitches in on her own a lot but usually either my husband or i or both are at home so it is pretty rare when she alone is in charge. We are a very close very large family, everyone pitches in where needed. and if my husband and i had left her here to watch the house and animals while all the other kiddos were at gradmas she would have been paid and would be allowed to have a friend stay. i think she loves it when that happens the house is so seldom empty.

i check in with her to see if she feels leaned on too much ow and then but for the most part she seems fine and says so.

the only evaluation doe was by the school so not by a PsyD. I would lke to but i am unsure if his mom would allow us to do so. culturally mental health is not a priority and doctors are not trusted in this culture. the fact that i am getting a PsyD is not the norm.

YES! That is so important huh. following the gut. i would hate for something to happen and then know in my heart that i should not have truted him. again not because he would do something on purpose but becasue he would not think something through and burn the house down or just be dumb ad get someone hurt. he is a very giving loving big brother. and a giant kid trapped in a hormonal body just does not think

I actually have an answer.... just had Human Growth and Development psych for my RN... While the human brain is growing rapidly and changing all thru the teen years, the frontal lobe of the brain (which controls personality, curiosity, and impulse control - among other things) is the last part to mature. In fact, it is not generally considered fully developed until between 21 and 25 years of age - hence the reason for higher insurance premiums for drivers <25. {OK, WHY is there not a "nerd" similie?}
So you see, teens really do have idiotic tendencies, but it's for medical reasons!

Yah, I know, this info doesn't help me much with my 13 yr old son either...

we were talking about that very thing earlier in the thread and while a lot of us just pull our hair out over our childrens actions it is true they are not done developing. that is why they are risk takers and do not think things through. it is frustrating though and differs by child. likei said my daughrter is a whole differet story. she is just as frustrating but inn a totally differet way than he is.
