It could be mites. Do they free range.? Do you have a Dust bathing area in the run if they do not free range?

Do they ever dust bath. If chicken do not get an opportunity to dust bath they are more likely to get mites. Chicken get rid of mites by dust bathing to keep there selves clean!!

I see them doing it in the dirt. But i can out some fireplace ash out today?
