Headless in the yard - still a coon?

Since you have a bunch of animals, have you considered electric fence? All critters respect the EF! (except maybe a hard headed ram with 6+ inches of wool and a attitude)

As for owls, they usually limit hunting to darkness but some deer netting or fruit tree netting is effective as is, according to some folks, stringing lines over the run with shiny items hanging from it (ie, tin foil or old CDs)

I actually plan on electric fencing, when I can afford it. Right now I have another pasture I need to get fenced first for daytime grazing, and some cross-fencing of my main pasture soon to allow a bit more rotation. I'm hoping to have grass alive in the drought we're having, since they are projecting a major hay shortage. I'm watering my pastures -- sounds crazy, but it's cheaper than buying bagged feed.

I think I'm dealing with more than one predator at a time. Yesterday sometime in the early morning the guinea coop got opened and one is missing. Probably only a raccoon could manage the latch.

And I found an empty chicken egg shell in their coop, halves intact, as well as an empty half shell in one of the goose coops yesterday. My last goose is still laying but only setting in shifts and they have access to the chicken yard during the day, so they must have all wandered over there when whatever came to get the egg.

I can't imagine any egg-eater getting in the goose coop without at least signs of a fight otherwise, and except for the empty half-shell, nothing appears amiss with the geese or their coop.

Most folks I know that use these just throw them in a rain barrel or a creek a few I know use a euthanasia chamber built out of a rubbermaid container

the problem with using shiny or CD's is I have attracted a fair number of coon using shiny and I use christmas tinsel and CD's to get bobcats into my traps
