I put 4x4 wire around the bird feeder to keep the chicken out for coccidiosis and the leghorns and RIR still slipped right through. Had to replace with chicken netting. . 2x4 wire contains chickens and keeps out predators but chicks under 5 -6 weeks and pop through it.
