I've got two chicks that have been picked at over night. They are about 3 weeks old. They were all fine yesterday, but today, one of them has a raw spot, and the other has four. I have five chicks in all, and just moved them to a larger brooder. They are starting to feather, and I think the new feathers are attracting attention because they are so much darker than the rest of the chicks they are coming in on.

I've separated the two injured chicks each into their own boxes. I have put ointment on the wounds, and now I need to know about how long to expect them to spend healing before I can work on putting them back with the other chicks?

Healing time varies, can be up to a week.

Try offering more things to the chicks in the brooder - they might be bored. I give mine a contain filled with sand/dirt from the yard, if I can find grass/weeds I give them that also. Thawed frozen veggies, half a cabbage, half an apple - even left over chicken if we have any. Just be sure to give them grit or sand, they need it to grind their food in their gizzards.

Thank you!! I still need to get some grit, so I can offer some goodies to them... I'm also working on a second tractor so that they can stretch their legs... poor things. Thanks again for the good advice! I just bought some frozen vegis... I hear they like those a lot.
