Hi there.: (Black EE cockerel, Buff EE pullet, light Brahma pullet, and RIR cockerel)
Lol I love them the most at this age so far. Not too fragile as babies, but not too big to allow them to hangout on my boyfriends head lol! They are definitely amazing. Thank you for your insight. You seem to be very chicken-wise <3Hi there.
Your black cockerel is a Rosecomb and not an EE as far as I can tell. I'd be shocked if your buff is an EE also with a straight comb, but maybe.
Lovely group ya got there, even though they're at their awkward looking ugly teen phase.
I just feed 20% protein flock raiser with oyster shell free choice on the side for active layers. Quality look of feathers can be effected by so many things including over crowding, age, diet, parasites, mating, time of year/weather, and so many other things. Maintaining a high quality diet is definitely key to so many things health related including over all appearance.![]()
See I’m new to chickens, and know little so far, but keep reading up on everything I can. And I bought them at tractor supply who used Hoover’s Hatchery. Well, the bin She was in just said “assorted bantams”. I contacted the hatchery with pictures and they said black chicken and tan chicken are EE. But now 3 people have said they’re rosecomb and Japanese. I can see both in them. Only way to know for sure at this point is to see the color of her eggs lololol!Your buff EE is actually a black tailed buff Japanese Bantam, and as @EggSighted4Life mentioned, your cockerel is a black rosecomb..![]()
The hatchery worker is likely mistaken. I looked at their site... and they use the SAME pictures for so many of their breeds.I contacted the hatchery with pictures and they said black chicken and tan chicken are EE.
YOUR BIRD IS GORGEOUS!!! Thank you for posting your diet too!!I feed 20% protein all flock feed, plus oyster shells for the laying ones. I feed wheat for training them, and occasionally cracked corn. I give them electrolytes once in a while and whenever they may be stressed. This diet has worked very well for my soft feathered breeds.

Looking at Hoovers' site... I can't even find Rosecomb and only black tailed WHITE Japanese bantam. They also call their EE Americana. Maybe they just aren't offering them anymore?? It's unusual for an employee to actively call their misrepresentation of Ameraucana, EE.
Fun times!![]()
