Healthy Treats for Peafowl Today?

Faith SL, blueberry pancakes with apple topping? Wish I'd been there for breakfast.

Today mine got cauliflower and celery. I chop veggies and fruit up in my processor.

Country_girl, mine are eating some of the Live Oak tree leaves. I don't think they'd eat them if they were bad. I take it as them needing more greens. I often purchase bunches of greens at 88 cents a bunch and give several to them. They do love their greens.
they get greens 2-4 times a day

Greens 2 to 4 times a day??? How do you manage that? What kinds of greens? Store bought or out of your garden? Grass clippings? Hmmmm, you've probably posted how you're giving them greens but I'm to lazy to scroll back through and read everything. Please forgive me!

This is the reason for this thread. Some of us feel like we're do great by our peafowl but others can teach us new ways to even take better care of them.

usually its dandelion greens.
theres alot of them this season..
or i give them some fresh alalpha outa the hayfield.
i always have peas on hand.
as well as lettuce (or other greens if on sale)
plus they get grapes.

they usually get something everytime i am out at the pen.

Some of my peafowl will also gulp down a leaf or two while free ranging, which worries me since most of the leaves they decide to eat are oak leaves (lots of tannic acid - poisonous!). They seem to be fine and don't show any ill effects, but it still leaves me concerned. They are fed certain greens such as kale and spinach and always have some type of green, edible grasses available to them while free ranging, but I cannot think of why the oak leaves look so tasty and edible to them

Bananas, cubed steamed yams and raisins were provided for the peafowl today.

There are a lot of oak trees here and I've never seen our guys eating any leaves...I have seen them swallow whole acorns (big ones!), which surprised me!

I sometimes cut off my banana leaves - the ones just unfurling- ,from my trees, and feed them those. They love them. Tear into them crazily. Grass cuttings, spinach. I almost bought some kale the other day but was scared they wouldn't eat it and I do not. Mine are very picky. I am glad some of ya'll give them shrimp, it is shrimping season and that will be a great treat. Only my Java's will eat persimmons. They do like tomatoes sometimes. I don't eat as well as some of ya'lls peas do though. I will have to branch out. Didn't know that about white bread. Will have to go to breadstore and see if I can get some healthy bread cheap. Mine do not like mango's or kiwi. They are as bad as my son. They like broccoli.
