heart broken... coyote... my final say

So here is a question that I can't really find an answer to... does anybody know what color eyes a coyote has? What little I can find seems to indicate that they are gold. The one that we got had dark brown eyes like my dog has, part of what made me suspect coydog. Also the fact that we live in a very rural state (avg population per square mile in my county is something like 2.5). I could understand coyotes in urban setting losing some of their fear, but this is far from urban and this guy was pretty bold. Looked like a coyote other than eye color, about the size of my Shelties, and had a bit of mange. Thoughts?

I've see a few up close and personal but neither they nor I were gazing into each other's eyes so I can't help you there. That being said there is nothing that says there can't be some domestic dog DNA in any of the coyote population just that there isn't a viable cross left in most places. I suspect, given your location, there would be less rather than more chance of a coyote/dog cross. Probably the animal was just curious and, given its condition, check your place out for an easy meal. Hunger does a lot in terms of overcoming fear.

BTW, I do have a good friend that does taxidermy so the next time I see him I'll ask about eye color. He did tell me that coyotes are the most popular animal to be stuff as of late.
