Heartbroken - Need answers 😭

Yes, 10 years is quite a feat. I have several 8 year olds and recently lost two of my 9 year olds, my oldest. According to most literature, oviduct cancer and reproductive infections are common after 2 years, especially in some of the production hens who lay every day.
She was a shaver so definitely a production hen. My poor Buttercup 😢😢. Thanks for all your help.

Im sorry you has experience this with your Hen. She had a good life with you. You laughed with her doing silly things and you cried with her in the end.
These are the memories that one can ever hope for.
Find peace in your heart. You have been there all her life and you have been blessed.
Thank you so much.

I'm sorry for your loss. :hugs
She might have had a hernia. A friend of mine's hen had it, and they put this medicine (started with a Co?? I think) on it and bandaged it, and after a while she was healed. I'll have to call her about the name of the medication.

She was 5 years old. They do look like tumours. I’m just hoping it isn’t something I could have avoided. I just feel so sad that I spent 2 days trying to help her and all I did was cause her more pain and let it linger on. I’ve also had the guilt of wondering if I’ve euthanised a chook too soon without giving it longer....and now I’m regretting I didn’t do it sooner. It’s just so heart breaking.
There is nothing you can do about the tumors. It happens to hens from age two and up.

Thanks for the suggestion. Don’t think it was a hernia though as nothing was visible from the outside except for the water belly which suggests internal organ failure. Also he internals were riddled with hard white lumps and big white Solid fatLike masses.
it would be good to get the name of that medicine though as you never know what’s next with chickens 🙄🙄
