Heat lamp or panel heater?

Anyone have a strong opinion on these? I need something for my grow-out pen/brooder, just to transition babies. I already have a utility light I could screw a ceramic lamp into, but I'd rather go ahead and get the panel heater if that's the better choice-- though the panel is much more expensive, so if there's no real difference, I'd rather go with the lamp! Anyone have a strong opinion?

I've always used the lamp with never an issue. Just have to keep the thermometer in there for the 1st week and replace the bulb when it blows out before the chicks get too cold.

Lots of people love the panels, and they're much safer. The screw-in type ceramic, and heat lamp bulbs pose much higher potential for fire.

I just use regular 60W soft light bulb. Plenty of heat for the chicks no fire haz'rd.

That's what I'm afraid of! I know there's always a risk and plenty of people use them safely, but I think for my own peace of mind I'll just shell out for the panel. Chickens are a never ending expense, huh?

True about the never ending expense, and then chicken math will take over, and you'll want MORE of them. LOL!

I made two MHP's for my 36 meat birds, it works really well. in the photo of the panel you linked to, it looks like it's designed to stand up. the key to MHP's is putting them horizontally and at a pitch, so that the chicks can actually make direct contact against their backs and move forward or backward to increase or decrease temp as needed, allowing them to regulate their own temp. I'm having a hard time imagining the linked heat panel working that way.
