I walked into the coop today, and it smells pretty strongly of burnt toast, and I am pretty sure it is the heat lamps. I unplugged them right away, because I am not planning on having fried chicken! Why do you think they are doing this? Defective lamp/bulb? Will it burn down my coop? :(

Mine smelled like burnt toast when the dust from the chicks (feed, dander, etc) drifted up and then landed on the metal guard and got hot. Pretty scary. I've got an EcoGlow this year for just that reason.

I would clean the bulbs and lamps to get dust off. Then plug in and see if smell comes back. If does I'd probably get new lamps.
