Heat Lamp

It sounds like they will be out of the wind so the wind chill shouldn't come into play--that is an artificial number anyway if the birds are protected. I suspect you have enough birds in that kind of a space that they can warm themselves but I sure as heck would rather have wooden walls than tarp if at all possible. Also, hopefully you have roost for them to get up off the floor and/or have some kind of litter on the floor.

BTW, I doubt a heat lamp would do much good with that many birds in that kind of setup anyway.

Yeah my coop is a very open place, chicken wire/2x4 wire all around except the north side. I have thought of putting op wood sides but that is a little pricey with wafer board at $7 for a 4x8 sheet I would need 14-15 sheets, $100+ in wood would require a whole lot of eggs for $2.50 a dozen. I do have straw about 2-3 inches thick on the floor throughout the coop. I have thought about making a room like 10x10 with my 20 next boxes in it and have lights and windows in it. Would this be enough for 50 to 75 chickens to go into at night?
Thanks, Nate
