Heat Lamp?

We're glad to have you.

I do not keep a heat lamp on my birds in the wintertime. I picked out cold hardy breeds, which, because of their small combs and profuse feathering, do fine in the cold. Heat lamps can be neccesary for young chicks in the winter, or for large combed breeds being raise in cold climates. But, in general, if you pick out cold weather hardy birds and keep them in a dry, draft-free coop, they can surivive below zero temperatures without a heat lamp.
