Can anybody help me out and list some links to cheap but reliable heat lamps? All the ones I've found are very pricey!

Heat lamps for brooding chicks? You can pick them up at most farm stores for around $10.

Sometimes you have to buy the expensive ones! But if you searched on the app LSN (it is an app that people sell stuff) I am sure they will have some cheap heat lamps on there!! Good luck!

Have you read the thread on MHP by Blooie? She's used a heating pad that doesn't have the automatic shut off. I've tried it and now converted ... I find chicks are more calm & quieter, no so skittish.

They have them at Walmart the clear heat lamps for $5 and the bright red ones for $10. It is like this at my Walmart but I'm not sure if it depends on location.

I would not buy a heat lamp. I would choose to brood chicks with a heating pad system. Check out @Blooie's article and thread in her signature.

If you buy a heat lamp bulb, be sure it is not teflon coated (shatter resistant). Those off gas teflon which is toxic to birds. If brooding in your house, you only need 100 watts. and your brooder should be 2 s.f./bird to allow enough room for the necessary temperature gradient.

Are you located within or outside the us? This may help to explain the disparity between your difficulty finding an affordable lamp and the ready availability of them at retailers noted by previous replies.
