I used to be a die-hard heat lamper (is that a thing? I don't know
). I live in Northern Florida and the weather has pretty high highs and decent lows. My experience using a heat plate for the first time has been amazing. No pasty butt, no noisy babies, and generally, very impressed.
My climate when I started out with newly hatched chicks and set-up:
Hatch date: 5/20/2022
Night time temperature (at first, now it's just hot as hell): Lower 50s F for the first week
Day temperatures: 65-95F
Brooder type: In a metal brooder
Location: Outside on our screened in raised porch (fully covered but wind could be a factor if my brooder didn't have sliding panels)
I'd think about using a space heater plus the heat plate if possible. Only my 2cents
